A lot of young ladies today have their makeup game down to a science, but do not bother to take care of their own skin. Many of the problems we face on our faces come from how we take care of it. On a daily basis the things we do can help or hurt our skin and having a the right regular routine to follow
The secret is in your daily routine. What you do every single day could affect how you look when you have that special event to attend or how you look when caught off guard. Well if this is your problem, calm down. I’ve got a few ideas up my sleeve to get you living right. I’ve got a combination of tips, tricks and even simple habits that can have you glowing 24/7.
- Drink Water: Your skin is made up of about 64% water and when well hydrated, skin is less likely to crack or let in external particles. Dehydration may set off more acne as oil glands are more likely to release more oil to moisturize leading to clogging pores which almost always lead to pimples. Drinking soda can wreck havoc to your precious skin more than you think; over time, drinking sugar filled soda can lead to premature aging, dehydration and dulling your skin. It can bring about those bu constant little bumps on your face, so it would be wise to cut down on your Sprite game and drink something more natural like juice, water or tea. Although most of these effects can take years to show up, they can still be very regrettable.
- Cleanser +Toner + Moisturizer: Cleansing, like the name suggests removes dirt, excess oil, and other particles. Dead skin, bacteria and pollutants can be removed by a single wash. Toner usually comes after cleanser because after washing it closes the pores, sealing in water for extra moisture and returns your skin back to its normal pH level, which should be slightly acidic. It also prepares the skin for the rest of the routine. Moisturizer is next; however, if your skin has specific needs such as dryness, pimples, rash or discoloration, a serum can be applied to the affected areas before the moisturizer. Moisturizer boosts hydration in your skin, prevents dullness and has anti aging properties.
- Know Your Skins Needs: Everyone has a type of skin and it is beneficial to find out what type of skin you were gifted with, and it’s wise to know if you have dry, combination or oily skin, and you can find what you need to have the best skin, because different types have different needs. I personally have combination skin, where some parts get extremely dry and others get very oily. My skin is sensitive because I get episodes of eczema so I am quite careful with what goes on it. I like to keep products used as simple as possible, using Vaseline lotion with Aloe Vera, which is basically in every supermarket or pharmacy countrywide.
My Skin Routine:
Daily, I start by washing with a mild cleanser. The toner I use is Rosewater, which I made myself out of a handful of rose petals. [If you want to know my recipe for rosewater, comment below] and after that I put on a little bit of the Vaseline lotion. If my skin is acting up, I use a mild hydro cortisone tube where needed. Thereafter I proceed to my regular makeup routine, and many times don’t find need for foundation when I’m up and about that day.
Weekly, I do a simple at-home facial or mask out of ingredients available. My favorites are a combination of turmeric powder + baking soda+ coconut oil, or I crush bentonite clay (bumba) + apple cider vinegar to make a paste. Depending on what is readily available, I apply the mask then after about 20 minutes I wash it off and use an exfoliating scrub to make my skin extra soft and free from dead skin. Sometimes I will steam my face in plain hot water to open my pores more if I feel I need it.
Those weeks when I have very important things happening on a particular date, I drink green tea, which is amazing for my skins overall health and ensures that the glow is strong, but daily I try as hard as possible to get at least 3 glasses of water in, despite not really liking water.
You don’t have to buy all these expensive products to have glowing skin every day. Many of the beauty products I use are in my kitchen or cost as little as 20,000/- and less, so it’s not supposed to be this whole pricey venture to be a Goddess. Here are a few examples of kitchen ingredients you could try for skin:
- Green tea
- Avocado
- Apple cider vinegar
- Baking soda
- Bananas
- Honey
- Aloe Vera (Kigajji)
- Cucumber
- Oils such as coconut and olive
- Eggs
- Plain yogurt
Along with many, many more.
I usually alternate the routine according to what I need at the moment, and I must admit sometimes I’m too lazy to do anything at all, as long as my daily routine is well followed. But once you have your routine in motion, sit back and wait for the questions of “what do you use on your face?” to come rolling in.
